Thematic search

Please select study object, study focus, and a work step in order to proceed.
Steps marked with * are compulsory. Narrowing down the search results by tool purpose, tool characteristics, and tool category is optional.

Study object *

The study object addresses the indicator that is being monitored. It could be a unique plant or animal species, a habitat type, or possibly a unique cultural element. Note: a proxy variable would not be the study object. The study object is the thing that the proxy is intended to represent (since we care about the object, not the proxy).

Study focus *

The study focus describes the broad-scale goals that surround the study. Examples include whether the study is designed to investigate anthropogenic influences on the environment, whether the study should document the state of biodiversity at a site, or whether a new tool is appropriate for surveying a study object.

Work step *

Work steps in environmental monitoring include plot establishment (choosingstudy design, study site, plot), data collection (field measurements, getting supplemental data from external sources), data archiving (storage and management of collected data), data analysis (qualitative, quantitative), and presentation.

Tool purpose

Tool purpose narrows work steps down to individual tasks (e.g. plot marking is a task within plot establishment)

Characteristics

Narrow your search by selecting tools with certain characteristics, such as being professional or free to use.

Category

Narrow down to devices, software or manuals, guidelines, and frameworks.

keyword search

Keyword-based search

This is a search based on keywords associated with each tool. In addition to keywords, tool titles and short descriptions are analyzed semantically. If semantic search fails, an additional search is performed based on letter sequences regardless of their meaning.
